The Nashville Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society will have its
regular monthly meeting at Radnor Lake Visitors Center in Nashville on Thursday
night, January 17, 2008, beginning at 7:15 p.m. You are invited to enjoy an
interesting program by an excellent birder and astronomer. Below is a summary
of Frank Fekel's scheduled program:
In November 2006 Frank Fekel attended an astronomy meeting
in Pasadena, California. He first explored the campus of
CalTech and Angeles National Forest. After the meeting
he visited former NTOS birder Jay Desgrosellier in La Jolla
for two days. Jay acted as his tour guide, taking him to
many of the San Diego County birding hot spots, such as
La Jolla Cove and Point Loma. Thus, he facilitated
Frank's search for new life list birds as Frank attempted
to reach the 600 species plateau in the lower 48 states.
Specialties in southern California include California
Thrasher, the habitat threatened California Gnatcatcher,
California Towhee, Wrentit, Tricolored Blackbird,
and west coast shorebirds such as Wandering Tatler, Black
Turnstone, and Surfbird. Frank will give a slide show
highlighting several of the places he visited and some of
the birds that he and Jay found.
