J. Percy Priest Lake, Davidson Co. TN
The rain held off long enough for nine folks to get in a morning of
birding around the lake.
Highlights: - possibly the best was the group of "seasoned" birders being
stumped by a bright and melodious song coming from the brush, the singer
revealing himself to be a male N. Cardinal singing on territory! Not until
later did he throw in a "cheer, cheer, cheer" to get back to something we
recognized.
Multitudes of Ring-billed and Bonaparte's gulls were present over the lake
taking advantage of "free fish food" with the shad die-off. The wind and
hunters' guns gathered Horned Grebes, Bufflehead and a group of 27 Com.
Goldeneye into tight flocks near the shore.
A finale bird was Merlin seen at Elm Hill Marina. Frank Fekel will be
posting species and numbers on eBird for stops including the dam, Seven
Points, Vivrett, Cook, & Hamilton Creek Rec. Areas.
