NTOS will sponsor a Field Trip on Saturday 27 August 2011 to Bledsoe Creek State Park in Gallatin-Sumner County, TN. This small (164 acres) park is located on the shoreline of Old Hickory Lake with trails that hug the shore, traverse wooded areas, and travel along some open fields. Wading birds such as herons and egrets are likely species to be seen along the shore, and we should see some residents and perhaps early migrants along the other trails. After birding the park, we will have a picnic lunch at one of the park’s many picnic shelters and from there, for those interested, we will return to Nashville with a stop at Snow Bunting Peninsula near the Old Hickory Dam. Often migrating gulls and terns as well as some shorebirds are seen there in late August. We will meet at 7:00am at the Adventure Science Center, 800 Fort Negley Blvd, in the lower parking lot and carpool from there. Those wishing to meet at Bledsoe Creek instead, should meet us no later than 8:00am in the parking area at the end of Raccoon Creek Road, located on the right, 0.4 mile past the park entrance which is on on Ziegler's Fort Road. Bring a beverage, snacks and a picnic lunch. We should return to the Adventure Science Center by mid-afternoon. Kevin Bowden Linda Kelly NTOS Field Trip Coordinators Nashville, TN
