NTOS will sponsor a Field Trip on Saturday 19 June to Edgar Evins State Park
on Center Hill Lake (DeKalb County).

We will meet at the Adventure Science Museum in Nashville at 7:00am and
carpool to the Visitor's Center at Edgar Evins. Those wishing to meet us
directly at the park's Visitor's Center should plan on meeting us there
@8:00am.

We will first climb the Tower at the Visitor's center for tree-top looks at
birds. This spot is often good for viewing Cerulean Warblers, one of the
park's specialties as well as other canopy-loving birds.

Due to the hot weather predicted, we will remain flexible with regards to
our walking route after the tower climb. We have several possibilities,
including hiking the 2 mile Highland Rim Trail that runs behind the
Visitor's Center, hiking a relatively flat portion of the Millennium Trail
(also approximately 2 miles), and birding the edge along park roads. All of
these routes will be in deep shade, but heat will still be a factor. Bring
plenty of water, good sturdy shoes as well as insect repellant. We also
recommend wearing long pants as poison ivy and ticks thrive in close
proximity to the trails.

In addition to Cerulean Warblers, we should expect to observe Hooded,
Kentucky, and Worm-eating Warblers, as well as Wood Thrush, Summer and
Scarlet Tanagers, Yellow-throated Vireos and other woodland birds.

Afterwards we will picnic along the lake shore, so bring snacks and lunch in
addition to water. We should be back in Nashville early to mid afternoon.
