Join us for an early spring outing as we explore the overgrown fieldsand
pastures of Bells Bend Park in western Davidson County. We’ll begin beforedawn
to look and listen for owls and American Woodcock, themales of which hopefully
will still be “peenting” and displaying their way intothe hearts of the females
just before dawn. Once things lighten up, we’ll meander along the trails in
search ofsparrows, waterfowl, Northern Harrier, and other early spring
arrivals. We’ll meet at 5:30 a.m. at the Poplar Creektrailhead (the first of
the two park entrances off of Old Hickory Blvd) for the pre-dawn portionof our
trip. Those wishing to sleep in abit can meet up with the group back at the
Poplar Creek parking lot around 7:00. We should wrap up around lunchtime.
Please dress in layers, and wear appropriatefootwear as the grassy trails at
Bells can be damp.
