When: Saturday, October 17th at 7:00 amWhere: Bells Bend Park in Nashville,
Davidson Co.
Come join us this Saturday, as we explore the overgrown fields and forest edges
of BellsBend Park. The pastoral landscape ofBells Bend is unique in Davidson
Co, and is one of the best places to seedeclining grassland birds such as
Bobwhite and Eastern Meadowlark. It’s also a premierlocation for sparrows, and
by mid-October, we should encounter several speciesas they are either migrating
through or returning to spend the winter. We’ll also search for any lingering
neotropicalmigrants.
The morning will consist of aleisurely hike along the mowed paths as we start
at the Outdoor Center, thenmake a loop past the shorebird pond, along the
river, and then back to thecenter. We will meet at 7:00am at thecenter and we
should be done by lunchtime. Please note that the grass can bequite wet from
the morning dew, so wear appropriate footwear. Fingers crossed that the
Nelson's Sparrow found this morning by Frank Fekel is still around!
I look forward to seeing everyone!
