One of the advantages to living 3 miles from your place of work
is being able to go home for lunch on occassion. Someday I'm
going to have to sit down and figure up how many new yardbirds
I've gotten this way. 3 in just the last couple of weeks.

Today (29 April) I was sitting on the deck eating lunch, binoculars
at my side, when I spotted a large, odd-flying bird... deep, slow
but graceful wingbeats. Got the binoculars on it but it still
took a minute to register just what the heck that thing was.
A Northern Harrier! Yardbird #121 (had a Worm-eating Warbler
earlier that I didn't post if you're keeping score along with me).

The harrier was flying high along the ridgeline to the south (seems odd)
and was joined by at least 2 Turkey Vultures and a Sharp-shinned Hawk.
Odd combo.

Ron Hoff and crew also had a harrier on the Knox County Spring Count
this past Sunday.
