I assisted Terry Witt in doing the Fall Count for Rutherford County, TN yesterday. I kept the count. The weather was chilly but I was fairly comfortable in a short-sleeved T-shirt wearing my winter coat and jeans. The cold wind was sometimes a problem especially closer to the open water of Percy Priest Lake, but overall it was not bad at all. It was overcast but thankfully it never rained. We birded various spots in mostly northern Rutherford County. Areas ranging from a refuse landfill to marshy areas near Percy Priest Lake to the Discovery Center right in downtown Murfreesboro. This is a list of the species as I remember them: Non-Passerines: Pied-billed Grebe Great Blue Heron Great Egret Black Vulture Turkey Vulture Wood Duck Mallard Osprey Cooper's Hawk Red-tailed Hawk American Kestrel Rock Dove Mourning Dove Chimney Swift Belted Kingfisher Red-bellied Woodpecker Yellow-bellied Sapsucker Downy Woodpecker Northern Flicker Warblers: Tennessee Warbler Orange-crowned Warbler Magnolia Warbler Yellow-rumped Warbler Pine Warbler Prairie Warbler Palm Warbler Bay-breasted Warbler Black-and-white Warbler American Redstart Ovenbird Common Yellowthroat Other Passerines: Eastern Wood-Pewee Eastern Phoebe White-eyed Vireo Blue Jay American Crow Northern Rough-winged Swallow Carolina Chickadee Tufted Titmouse White-breasted Nuthatch Carolina Wren House Wren Marsh Wren Golden-crowned Kinglet Ruby-crowned Kinglet Eastern Bluebird American Robin Gray Catbird Northern Mockingbird European Starling Cedar Waxwing Scarlet Tanager Eastern Towhee Song Sparrow Swamp Sparrow White-throated Sparrow Northern Cardinal Rose-breasted Grosbeak Indigo Bunting Red-winged Blackbird Eastern Meadowlark Common Grackle House Finch American Goldfinch House Sparrow Barry Jernigan Murfreesboro, Rutherford Co, TN
