Lake Co. TN

On Sunday, Glen Criswell and I were coming around the south end of Reelfoot
Lake when I saw a hen Mallard with a string of young that seemed to go on for
ever. I told Glen as I made a quick U turn that there must have been 25
ducklings following her.

When we relocated her (she looked pretty harried to say the least) we counted
28 young, which appeared to be 3 different broods, varying slightly in age
but most fairly far along. Evidently something had taken the other mothers or
they had played a dirty trick on her but my hat is off to my candidate for
"Mother of the YEAR"

Good Birding!!!
