Pace Point area
I just received a call from Jeff Wilson, who is with a few others at the
Pace Point area. Once again, they have all 4 species of loons in the same
area, but this time on the Rocky Point side. This isn't the amazing part,
the Yellow-billed Loon seen today is a DIFFERENT Yellow-billed than the one
enjoyed by so many lately. The bird seen today is still largely in juvenile
plumage, and the bill isn't as strikingly yellow (and duskier towards the
base), and I believe Jeff said the bill and head weren't as massive as the
previous bird. It will be interesting to see when the Yellow-billed in GA
was last seen, the last post concerning it was on Feb. 29. The description
Jeff gave sounded very similar to the GA bird, with some nice pale fringing
remaining on the upper parts. There are only 30 or so loons in the Rocky
Point area, but great looks were had at all 4 species here. The majority of
the birds are still on the TN River side of Pace Point, with Red-throated
being seen here as well. Now, if they can just re-find the original
Yellow-billed for two simultaneously in TN at the same location!

I'm sure Jeff will get more details out concerning this bird, but no doubt
the few people that decided to go up again this weekend were extremely well
rewarded! I almost feel a sick-day coming on tomorrow.

Good birding!!
