We had the best extended looks at a Worm-eating Warbler ever this morning in
our yard. This beautiful adult worked his way through the bushes about 50 feet
away at eye level then after eating sat in the open preening himself for almost
five minutes. Of course, when I decided to get the camera after enjoying him
for so long, he immediately went into hiding. Too bad we haven't developed the
technology to download images from the brain and print them. An first year
female Yellow-breasted Chat appeared also, along with a Great Crested
Flycatcher (yesterday afternoon there were three).
I also had a 99% certain Bewick's Wren in the yard this week. Got a good look
at his overall brown and whitish colors, with the white extending up onto the
neck. He also was moving his uplifted tail side to side. He popped out from
the bushes at the edge of the yard about 50 feet away, then flew across to the
trees near the deck. He then flew back to the bushes and stopped briefly so I
had a rear view and I could see no barring on him at all. But not having seen
one in the yard before and the quick look for the barring leaves that 1% doubt.
I continue to watch for him to reappear but wonder if he was a migrant.
