Tennessee NWR Duck River Unit Humphreys County Blue Goose Blvd. Auto Tour Loop 09/15/11 The front didn't have any negative impact on the sora numbers. They were a bit quiet this morning when it was cool, cloudy, and windy, but were very vocal after around 3 after then sun had been out for several hours. Yesterday while sitting in a strategic spot for about 5 minutes I observed a dozen sora going about their daily business. This is a unique experience to so easily see sora moving about. Today one could also observe numerous wood ducks, blue and green-winged teal and the first pintail of the year. When you have gone a good 400-500 yards on the route and just before the end of the first spillway where the road T's is where I observed the sora on the left at the juncture between the open water and the flooded vegetation (red sprangletop). They are also present on your right as well. Just a short distance past this point at the T if one looks off to tthe right in line with the Pintail Point observation building is where the wood ducks, teal and pintail could be seen. You must view them from your vehicle as getting out will cause them to flush. Sora can easily be heard on around the next turn in the road and were found to be common near the information sign, "Marvelous Mud." Clayton Ferrell
