I did some old fashion moon watching through my scope tonight in my yard in Smyrna (Rutherford Co.). I'm not sure I've ever watched migration via the moon before. I guess the radar was bright with migration as I saw 5-10 birds per minute (sometimes more) pass by the moon from 8:35 - 9:25 pm. A few birds were low enough to hear flight calls in my generally noisy neighborhood. Plenty of warbler calls I can't identify, but I heard a couple Indigo Buntings and a yard first Gray-cheeked Thrush. Good night time yard birding!
