During a futile search to find Morton Massey's Loggerhead Shrike that he
found this morning, we saw a Lark Sparrow. It was on the pavement just
north of 6304 New Hope Road, 2/10 mile north of Pond Creek Road, in Monroe
County at 5:13 pm. The thin profile of the bird alerted us to look at it
closely. It had the Lark Sparrow face pattern. When it flew from the
middle of the road to the side, the white pattern on its tail was easy to
recognize. See Sibley's pictures. It did not wait to be photographed and
left to the west.
