Nov. 4, 2007 Shelby Co. TN Two trips?by the river front?today, found the Peregrine this AM on its favorite log but no Eagles up river. The other cast of characters was about the same as on Saturday, except this afternoon there were two Horned Grebes riding the current. The Franklin's Gull was still present on McKellar Lake but the Herring was not present, only Ring-billed. At TVA Lake, more of the same as Saturday's?birds with the addition of a single Forster's Tern. On the pits it was also about the same except the Lesser Yellowlegs had been replaced by a late Pectoral Sandpiper. Kestrels were again numerous and kiting?plus a single Cooper's skirting the tree tops. There were 3?immature Harriers hunting the fields and among the many Red-tails, I found that the screaming?Rufous morph from last year had returned. I spent some quality time with the juvenile Krider's and got about 20 photos showing all the details. This is the second lightest Krider's I've ever photographed, it had a total of 4 small spots on its white belly! I heard geese and finally located a high vee of 44 Canadas heading south?soon followed by 23 American White Pelicans. What a great fall day to be out and about!! Jeff R.
