Oct.17- 23, 2010 Ensley Bottoms, North Treatment Plant, Mississippi River, Shelby Co. TN My computer has been up and down all week. Birds have been moving all week. Last weekend, the two treatment plants produced only 8 Wind Bird Species but at Ensley a late PURPLE MARTIN was a nice heads up bird along with Tree, Rough-wing, Barn and a smattering of late Chimney Swifts. My first of season western Red-tail was a light morph bird. American White Pelicans were fly-bys in 3 groups with 231 birds. Coopers were seen through the week, both hunting and migrating plus a single Sharp-shinned over the Wolf River at the Mississippi. The activity on the Mississippi was almost constant with the largest numbers on Wednesday, 11 pods of American Coots floating down river totaled; 727 Coots, 41 Ruddy Ducks, 7 Pin-tail, 16 Gadwall, 3 Ring-neck, 115 Blue-wing, 7 Green-wing, 34 Shoveler, 4 GREATER SCAUP, 95 Pied-billed Grebes and 1 EARED GREBE. On Thursday morning, White Pelicans stacked up on the upper Loosahatchie Bar in two mounds but slowly broke off and drifted past, total 313 birds. The only evidence to the event Friday, were drifts of white feathers at this location. Today the same cast paraded by, KEEP ROLLIN' ON THE RIVER>>>>>>>>>>... Good Birding !!! Jeff R.
