Spent a nice lunch hour with a little car birding around north Nashville.

Walter S. Camp Blvd. marshy spot by TSU

6 or so Northern Shovelers
10 or so Mallards
20 or so Coots
2 pair green-winged teal
4 pair gadwall
1 mockingbird
1 red-tailed hawk

Metro Center - Cumberland river overlook by golf course:
2 great blue herons across the river
1 white-throated sparrow
dozen or so crows
starlings
3 mockingbirds

Lake behind Watkins Institute

Ring-billed gulls 25 (4 first-years)
Bonaparte's Gulls - 2
Hooded Mergansers - 12 or so
Ruddy Ducks 6
Pied-bill grebes 6 or so
Canada goose 15 or so

Highlight
was returning to work at corner of Vanguard and Great Circle rd. to see
young Coopers Hawk in tall pine tree chasing a squirrel around and
around the trunk. Eventually he gave it up and sulked on a branch, letting me
get within feet of him. Of course the memory in my cell phone camera was
full .

I visited Amulet lake Wednesday morning and had a few interesting birds (for me
at least) including large numbers of Hooded Mergansers, several Bonaparte's
Gulls, a Horned Grebe and a friendly feral Muscovy Duck. I'm still getting to
know this urban birding spot but it is turning out to be more diverse and
interesting than I expected. No luck refinding the Black-crowned Night-Heron
from last week, however.

not identify with confidence)
