Spent a nice lunch hour with a little car birding around north Nashville. Walter S. Camp Blvd. marshy spot by TSU 6 or so Northern Shovelers 10 or so Mallards 20 or so Coots 2 pair green-winged teal 4 pair gadwall 1 mockingbird 1 red-tailed hawk Metro Center - Cumberland river overlook by golf course: 2 great blue herons across the river 1 white-throated sparrow dozen or so crows starlings 3 mockingbirds Lake behind Watkins Institute Ring-billed gulls 25 (4 first-years) Bonaparte's Gulls - 2 Hooded Mergansers - 12 or so Ruddy Ducks 6 Pied-bill grebes 6 or so Canada goose 15 or so Highlight was returning to work at corner of Vanguard and Great Circle rd. to see young Coopers Hawk in tall pine tree chasing a squirrel around and around the trunk. Eventually he gave it up and sulked on a branch, letting me get within feet of him. Of course the memory in my cell phone camera was full . I'm still getting to know this urban birding spot but it is turning out to be more diverse and interesting than I expected. No luck refinding the Black-crowned Night-Heron from last week, however.
