Mendota Hawk Report for Sunday, September 23, 2007
Tom Hunter and Ken Turner served as compilers today. They were on duty from 
9:00 a.m. until 6:30. The weather was unchanged from Saturday. Helping were 
Hugh and Julie Belcher, Alvarado, VA, Dr. Phil Shelton and three of his 
students, 
Marian Finucane and her dog, Bobo, and Twin Springs HS student, Samantha (aka 
Eagle Eye) Salyer . Samantha was working for extra credit in her ecology 
class. She was without her purple and black wig she was wearing last Tuesday.

Daily Totals and Year-to-date (YTD)

Broad-winged hawk:       51 YTD: 5276
Osprey:                          0  YTD: 14
Am. Kestrel:                   0  YTD:  6
Cooper's hawk:               1   YTD: 12
Sharp-shinned hawk:       0   YTD: 4
Am. Bald Eagle:             0   YTD: 12
Peregrine falcon:            0    YTD: 3
Northern Harrier:             0    YTD: 1
Red-shouldered hawk:     0    YTD: 1
    Total Hawks Y-T-D:  5329

The Mendota Hawk Watch is held at the Mendota Fire Tower (Elevation 3020) on 
Clinch Mountain, which sits on the Washington/Russell Counties line, three 
miles north of Mendota, VA. Come join the fun. No experience is necessary. OJT 
is 
provided.

I will not be at the site Monday, September 24, 2007. If you go up and no one 
else is keeping the count, please do so and send to me.
