Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co. TN
A quick run through the "Pits" revealed a bunch of nervous nellies. Wads of
tumbling birds were continually in the air due to a couple of Mississippi
Kites making ground skimming dives at insects that were flying low keeping
out of the wind. Birds of note were, 9 breeding or near breeding plumaged
Red-backed Sandpipers (Dunlin), 8 Semipalmated Plovers, 3 Baird's, 2 Stilt
Sandpipers which were scattered among numerous White-rumped, Least,
Semipalmated, Western, Pectoral and Lesser Yellowlegs. The glut of recent
Sandpipers had dwindled to a single bird but 13 Spotted Sandpipers were
taking up the slack with 7 surrounding one wet hole.
Only 14 species of Wind Birds but things are changing ever minute as these
birds are rushing north.
Good Birding !!!
