TN birders, Had a productive morning yesterday.? Started with 16 wild turkeys on TN hwy 60 just about a mile west of the junction of US hwy 58.? Got nothing of significance at Blythe Ferry, including the new overlook and ferry landing.? However, as one enters the refuge, at the last left turn, there are 2 privet thickets, a small one at the corner, and a larger one slightly farther from the corner.? AT the larger thicket, had 7 species of sparrows, including single fox and Lincoln's sparrows.? Exit from the refuge, and turning right toward the ferry landing, had a single adult white-crowned sparrow in a bush by one of the out farm buildings by the first house on the left.? As I headed back to hwy 60, the farm pond on the right had a pair of wood ducks.? All 5 species were new for 2009 for TN. putting me at 101 for the year.? Thanks to John Henderson for the tip regarding the white-crowned sparrows, a species that is increasingly harder to come by in east TN.
