4/25/07 McKenzie area (Henry Co) I met Michael Bernard after work this morning for a couple of hours of good birding around McKenzie. Micheal was particularly after Lark Sparrow and Swainson's Warbler for his TN list, and both finally cooperated. As noted previously today, there was a big movement of Indigo Buntings into the area. We had 10 feeding on the roadside at once, and probably saw 40-50 birds on the day, with a few females mixed-in. An occasional Blue Grosbeak was mixed in as well. Palm Warblers were the other abundant birds of the day, with a minimum of 40 seen on the day. Yellow-rumps were more obvious than I've seen them of late as well. Other new arrivals were a singing Magnolia Warbler and a Nashville. We had singing Swainson's at two of the locations I had them the other day. Michael got a quick look at one of them, but with Swainson's that's all you can ask for sometimes! We had looked at a couple of good spots for Larks with no luck, when we saw one fly across in front of us, but unfortunately it flew all the way across a big field. Diagnostic, but not very good looks. Just as the rain hit, we made one last pass through the area I had one a couple of days ago, and finally got good looks at a pair. That made at least three Larks in the general area, and I would imagine that there are at leas two pair in that area. This is just northeast of McKenzie on Macedonia-Routon Rd. Good Birding!!
