Regarding the presence of armadillos in our region, I'm wondering if this
signals some sort of climate change that would bring in new birds or create a
hostile environment for our old faves.

Aboout three years ago, I reported a dead armodillo at the at the off ramp of
I-40 onto Hwy 70 in Bellevue. A few weeks before, I had taken a photo of one
that crossed Natchez Trace near Franklin. They're HERE. I knew them well
when I lived in Florida. One of my fellow students at RollinsCollege was a
Texas rancher who told me they were good when batbequed. Daddy shot one, and I
cooked it. Not bad. Its belly was full of earthworms, so I guess that is what
they eat. This one had been digging in our yard for its food, so I don't
think they are a real threat to the birds.
