Birded the Maxson Lagoon Pits early Friday morning to try and beat the heat.
The temps quickly advanced and saw the usual selection of species. Nothing of
special note to report. Here's an eBird report for reference:
Maxson Pits, Shelby, Tennessee, US
Sep 22, 2017 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM
Protocol: Traveling
2.0 mile(s)
13 species (+1 other taxa)
Black-bellied Whistling-Duck 18
Canada Goose 67
Northern Shoveler 62
Mallard 12
Great Blue Heron 1
Red-shouldered Hawk 1
Red-tailed Hawk 1
Sora 1
Killdeer 66
Least Sandpiper 1000 Actually greater than 1000. Conservative estimate as
there were 3 large groups present and the counts I did stopped at 1000.
Lesser Yellowlegs 23
falcon sp. 1 Large falcon fly bye and only saw it flying away. Only saw it
after it passed and made all of the birds scatter quickly. I suspect it was a
Peregrine given it's size.
Northern Rough-winged Swallow 5
European Starling 16
