The bird (two frame grabs attached) was with a group of White-crowned Sparrows and other birds along Roy Thompson Road, 0.5 mile west of South Cross Bridges Road. The Lat/Long for the spot is 35.57625, -87.21975.

The unincorporated community of Cross Bridges is located west of Columbia on Highway 412, a few miles east of Hampshire. It is marked by a road sign, a reduced speed limit, the bridge over Big Bigby Creek, and a now-shuttered market. South Cross Bridges road goes south (left if you are traveling from Columbia) immediately west of the Big Bigby Bridge. It first travels very close to the creek, then gradually moves away from it. In about a mile, Cecil Farm Road goes off to the right; good birding that way too but stay on Cross Bridges. In about another 1.5 miles Ashwood road angles off to the left; angle right to stay on Cross Bridges. In about another half mile Roy Thompson Road goes off to the right; turn here and go 0.5 mile. I saw the bird near the top of the small rise, but of course these sparrow flocks tend to move around some.

The general Cross Bridges area has produced interesting birds in recent years, including Merlin and Loggerhead Shrike. It might be a good candidate for the Patagonia Rest Area effect, so if you travel that way keep alert for other surprises. The Columbia CBC "Count Week" period continues through Tuesday...
