Subject: [TN-Bird] MS River birding
October 10, 2017
Dyer & Lake Counties
I spent some time birding along the mighty MS Tiver today and had some nice
birds...
At Linwood Bend/Boothspoint boat ramp access in Dyer County I spent several
minutes watching the river and was rewarded by a flyby of a young SABINE'S
GULL! There were also 8 Bald Eagles siting on the rock jetties and a Sanderling
on the sandbar. I also had a Ring-billed Gull & a Forster's Tern.
Further north, at Fritz Landing boat ramp/access in Dyer County I had 2
immature ROSEATE SPOONBILLS feeding in a wet area on the sandbar near about 225
American White Pelicans, a few herons and egrets, and several ducks. After a
few minutes the spoonbills flew to the west and landed in another wet area
across the river in MO. They were later seen at this location by Timothy Jones
from MO. Timothy also had an American Avocet in the Thorny Cypress Barrow Pit
on the Great River Road in Dyer County.
Good birding!
