Gene Knight This is what Francis related to me: On May 29, 2007, I was at the Home Place Restaurant at the truck stop on the east side of I55 at Exit 144 near Pickens, MS. I saw a large number of Purple Martins flying in and our of the car gas port area covering. The ceiling of this area was a light corrugated material. The Martins were goinginto the inverted V shaped areas above the lights where the ceiling met the side beams. On June 20th, I again visited the same truck stop and say the Purple Matins entering and exiting these areas and definitely appeared to be feeding young. Have Purple Martins found a new communal nesting place? Has any one else noted this? I have observed Purple Martins nesting in the light poles that surround the KFC in downtown Memphis. This was some years back but I haven't noticed themthere lately.
