2/25/04 Pace Point area TN-Birders: Jeff and I didn't have any luck today with Loons, largely I hope because the wind and wave action was atrocious. We didn't stay to see the afternoon round-up, as it was a pretty futile gesture. We did see 60 or so loons spread out along the TN River side, down to the Granny's Resort area south of the Point. Hopefully calmer conditions will allow the 'goodies' to be found again, and hopefully someone will get some good photos of the Yellow-bill yet. The adult California Gull on Pace Point was a good consolation prize, and Don Manning got to get there in time to see it as a lifer. It left the Point once and disappeared for awhile, but came back in later in the afternoon. A group of 350+ American White Pelicans was a very impressive sight out from Lick Creek, the most either of us had ever seen in this area. Common Mergansers are still in the large group of ducks behind the maintenance sheds. Hopefully the weather will improve for the weekend, as I'm sure a few people are eyeing the area. Good birding!!
