----- Original Message ----- Spent a couple hours at Cove Lake State Park (Campbell County, TN )this afternoon looking for the loon found by the Estabrooks this morning. Finally located him late afternoon after watching an adult Bald Eagle harass virtually everything on the lake. After looking at the images they took on a bigger screen when I got home as well as observing the bird myself I concur with the others this is a Red-Throated Loon in Winter plumage. Another bad photo attached, however the upturned bill etc. as well as the description by the Estabrooks leads me to believe it is a Red-Throated Loon. He was very distant in horrible lighting. This was the best of over 50 photos w/ 400 mm lens. However, this IS a record for this species at Cove Lake State Park. Great find! Hope it will be entered into Ebirds by those that found it.
