TN-birders,
Yesterday around 4 p.m. Dollyann and I, along with John Froeschauer of
Nashville, found the female Long-tailed Duck at the Concord Marina in western
Knox County. We drove into the park area (which includes the marina) at the
second left after crossing a bit of water on the left (this is on highway 332
and you can see the marina off to the left). As you enter the park, there will
be a small par 3 golf course on the right (for reference). We came to the first
road on the right, but it is one way coming against you (no entry). The first
boat buildings you can see on the right is where the duck was seen. The last
building (a roof with boats parked in slips below) was marked "Dock J". To get
to this area, keep driving to the left. You will pass the entrance to the
Lakeside Grill, on top of a small hill on the right. Then take the first right
and it will take you below the restaurant and eventually past many boat
buildings. You will go until you nearly run out of the blacktopped parking
area. Park and start looking here. The Long-tailed Duck was hanging out with a
group of about 30 American Coots. It was around the third building from the end
(the end one being "Dock J").

Great birding,

Ron Hoff and Dollyann Myers
Clinton, TN
