I hit most of the spots on Kentucky Lake today from Paris Landing to Pace
Point and everything in between. Viewing was difficult all day, with high
winds and atmospheric distortion allowing much to go unidentified.
I was hoping that the adult Mew Gull that was photographed at Kentucky
Dam a few days would be making it’s way South through my area, but the gull
situation for the whole area is pretty disappointing. There are no decent
loafing areas around because of the high water, and very few gulls. I may
have seen 200 total the entire day.
LONG-TAILED DUCK, one female type at Paris Landing State Park, pretty far
out with hundreds of scaup. Probably the same bird that was photographed by
Clay Bliznick at Britton Ford last week.
RED-THROATED LOON, adult at Little Eagle Creek.
GOLDEN EAGLE, immature at Britton Ford
TREE SWALLOW, two late birds feeding over the water at Lick Creek.
BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, one late bird below Bennett’s Creek Overlook.
Biggest surprise of the day. Seen mobbing Red-shouldered Hawk at long
distance, spotting scope views.
