November 14, 2012 Bell's Bend sod farms Davidson Co Frank Fekel and I birded the sod farms in the Bell's Bend area this morning, and the birds did not disappoint us. At least 125 Horned Larks, 15 American Pipits, and 3 Lapland Longspurs were found, along with 2 Sandhill Cranes flying over. The Longspurs were staying with the Horned Larks, and were moving around the large sod farm on the right side of the road almost at the dead end of Old Hickory Blvd. Great Blue Heron 1 Black Vulture 3 Red-tailed Hawk 1 Sandhill Crane 2 Killdeer 1 Mourning Dove 3 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 1 Downy Woodpecker 1 Northern Flicker 2 American Kestrel 2 Blue Jay 3 American Crow 42 Horned Lark 125 At large sod farm at end of Old Hickory Blvd. Tufted Titmouse 1 Carolina Wren 2 Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1 American Robin 40 Northern Mockingbird 3 American Pipit 15 Cedar Waxwing 45 Lapland Longspur 3 Song Sparrow 1 White-crowned Sparrow 1 Dark-eyed Junco 2 Northern Cardinal 2 Red-winged Blackbird 65 Common Grackle 150 Brown-headed Cowbird 7 American Goldfinch 4 Phillip Casteel Madison,TN Dude, run! - Brian Harnois
