Dean, you mentioned a Loggerhead Shrike's lifting capacity. I once witnessed a Loggerhead Shrike in my yard carrying a male cardinal for a short distance!! Of course a shrike has no talons so it was carrying the bird with it's bill! It probably carried the cardinal 15-20 feet before dropping to the ground to enjoy the meal. It never got over about a foot off the ground but it was impressive nonetheless! Over the course of about an hour it completely devoured the entire cardinal leaving only a few feathers, the beak, and the feet!
