Dec. 17, 2008 TVA Lake, Ensley Bottoms Shelby Co. TN A quick, noon time trip paid off as a lot of gulls and ducks are back using the lake as a rest area. Right off the bat, I located a Surf Scoter and then a Black Scoter. Ducks and gulls were moving in and out even though they have 2 back-hoes cleaning the banks. A most unusual and interesting gull was hiding in the flock. It turned out to be the smallest Lesser Black-backed Gull I've ever seen. It evidently is a bird in its third cycle.
