4/20/06 southwest Henry Co. I got out for a couple of hours this morning, in-between thunderstorms, and birded just north of McKenzie in southwest Henry Co. As expected, there were a lot of birds around, including several 1st-of-season (FOS) birds. The highlight was a pair of Lark Sparrows at one of there traditional locations just north of McKenzie, very near Don Manning's house on Perry School House Loop Rd. The male was proclaiming territory from several song perches, so hopefully this pair will stay in this area. There is corn coming up here, which always seems to be the case with these birds in this area. Other birds were: 18 species of warblers again (including Chat) Tennessee FOS (nice influx, 8 birds) Nashville (FOS) 1 Northern Parula Yellow Warbler 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler Yellow-throated Warbler Pine Warbler Prairie Warbler Palm Warbler (3) Black-and-white Warbler Prothonotary Warbler Worm-eating Warbler (bird still on territory in same location as 4/17) Swainson's Warbler (2 birds singing in different territories) La. Waterthrush Kentucky Warbler Common Yellowthroat Hooded Warbler Yellow-breasted Chat (over a dozen seen/heard this morning, compared to one on 4/17) Yellow-billed Cuckoo FOS Eastern Kingbird Acadian Flycatcher FOS Great-crested Flycatcher FOS Wood Thrush FOS (several) Lincoln's Sparrow FOS White-crowned Sparrow (probably as many as I've seen in a day in the mid-south, 50 easily) Rose-breasted Grosbeak FOS Blue Grosbeak FOS Indigo Buntings everywhere Orchard Orioles (10+) Good Birding!!
