On the way to work this morning I saw a large flock of Cedar waxwings that flew
into a tree beside the road. I pulled over to get a better count and
immediately heard something other than the regular "zeeee" call. It sounded
more like a lower pitched rattling trill. I'm very familiar with the 2 basic
Cedar waxwing call types so this stuck out. I immediately thought Bohemian
waxwing and began scanning the birds. I only scanned maybe a dozen before they
flew away.

I proceeded on into work and immediately emailed Dean Edwards to see if there
were any state records of Bohemian to which he replied 'no' and appeared very
curious. I flew back out to the site and relocated the flock feeding on
hackberrys and wild grapes. During the course of the next hour I scanned
approximately 170+ birds in the flock and they were all Cedars. Small groups
were constantly flying into and out of the larger flock.

I'm not saying there was a Bohemian waxwing in the flock, but I did hear
something out of the ordinary. Any thoughts or comments as to the probability
of a Bohemian waxwing in the area?
