[TN-Bird] Re: Lapland Longspurs & Black-necked Stilt (Robertson County)

The stilt, last seen yesterday, was not present this morning. I'm hoping it
finally decided to head farther south.

Lapland Longspurs continue to be seen in several places. Ogg Road in Cedar
Hill, just off Hwy 41, has been especially good lately. It's a little-traveled
dead end road and there's a plowed field a few hundreds yard on the left. A
large flock of Horned Larks has been there since Sunday, and a few longspurs
are mixed in with them. I saw seven today. It's a challenge to spot the
longspurs but with patience I've gotten some good looks. (I had no idea there
were so many larks, I'm guessing 200+, until they took flight and swooped
around the field a few times. When they're foraging amongst the furrows and
clods they practically disappear.) There's also a small flock of Savannah
Sparrows, usually closer to the roadside and on the fences, and a Loggerhead
Shrike that can occasionally be seen nearby. This morning the shrike was
perched in one of the small trees near the rolls of hay.
