I had 8 Lapland Longspurs fly over my yard (in the Mt. Orange community just
outside of Trenton in Gibson County) on Saturday, November 18. I get a few
laps flying over almost every year as my yard is surrounded by agricultural
fields.

I was working in the Reelfoot Lake area yesterday and made a few quick runs by
a few spots. There are lots of gulls on Herron Rd. in the pool and a few on
Van Works Rd. Mostly Ring-bills with a couple of Herrings and a few Bonys
mixed in. Nothing out of the ordinary. The rice fields near Black Bayou were
full of Killdeer and snipe (over 200 snipe). I did have one Greater Yellowlegs
still in the area and that was the only other shorebird I saw. I had a few
laps flying and/or calling at almost every stop. No sign of the White-faced
Ibis that was around recently but as Mike Todd stated earlier there is a lot of
water around. I had 3 female Canvasbacks and a Greater Scaup with the
Ring-necked Ducks and Lesser Scaup on the Air Park sewer pond. A couple of
American Tree Sparrows were in the fence row near the lagoon - this has been a
fairly reliable spot for many years for that species.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and good birding,

Mark Greene
