Stephen and I birded around Cherokee Dam and Douglas Lake areas from about 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM today. Cherokee Lake Dam area at the corner of Hwy 92 and Hwy 375 intersection located just inside Grainger County, in the recently plowed field on the right (located just across from Shell station) we scanned through 100+ American Pipits when I finally spotted a different looking bird...at last the elusive "Lapland Longspur". Also of interest at Cherokee Dam, Douglas Lake, Fancher's Campground, and Spring Creek overlook the following birds were seen: Horned Grebe - 50+ Pied Billed Grebe - 50+ Common Loons - 18+ (All grouped together) Double Crested Cormorant - 5 Great Blue Herons Ruddy Duck - 4 Mallards Hooded Merganser - 100+ Redhead (female) - 1 Green Wing Teal - 50+ Red Tail Hawks American Kestrels Black and Turkey Vultures American Coots Killdeers Dunlin - 15+ Least Sandpiper - 40+ Bonaparte's and Ring Bills Herring Gulls - 3 The Satterfields - Stephen and Rebecca Union County - Luttrell, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
