TN-birders, Dollyann & I returned to Kyker Bottoms Refuge, in Blount County, this morning with our friends, Frank Bills & Sharon Bostick. They had a Lincoln’s Sparrow a week ago near the same spot we had one on the KTOS walk out there yesterday. Dollyann & I both missed it yesterday so we wanted to try again today. We did find one in the same area as yesterday’s trip. This is the gravel pullout, on the east side of the refuge) with NO structures (as opposed to the pullout at the maintenance shed or the bird blind). Once you’re parked, walk out the new road that goes into the refuge. You only walk past the first hedgerow a bit and there are fallen sticks and branches on both sides of the road. We saw the Lincoln’s Sparrow here. I also got a glimpse of an Orange-crowned Warbler here. The rest of the refuge was not all that busy with birds. There are a lot of Swamp Sparrows at the refuge right now, along with lots of Song Sparrows and some Field Sparrows. Only other bird out of the expected was a first winter Blue Grosbeak. Nice looking bird! No sign of the American Bittern we had yesterday. Great birding, Ron Hoff & Dollyann Myers Clinton, TN
