While doing a Backyard Bird Count at Kyker Bottom this afternoon I had 2 Tree swallows.? They were observed from the upper viewing platform.? I also had 2 Fox sparrows near the paved parking area.? There is lots of water and newly cleared areas so the ducks are spread out.?I had large numbers of Mallards and good numbers of Widgeon, Shovelers and Green-winged teal.? There were some Bufflehead and Ring-necked ducks in the deeper water below the maintenance area.? I found the? Loggerhead shrike in the hedgerow opposite the first barn on the left - the first time in over 2 months! The management area is again open for foot traffic and i noticed a sign that Youth Quail and Rabbit hunting is open on Saturday morning 2/116 and 2/23 until noon.? I am planning a return visit tomorrow evening in hopes of getting owls and Woodcock.
