I took a quick trip to Kyker Bottoms in southern Blount county today. Between 1:30 - 3 PM, (partly cloudy, 42 degrees, S 10-15mph) I observed or heard the following: Great blue heron 1 Am. Black duck 3 Ring-necked duck 6+ Gadwall 15+ Mallard 15+ Northern pintail 2 Northern shoveler 8+ Green-winged teal 30+ Wigeon 10+ N. harrier male 1 Red-shouldered hawk 2 Red-tailed hawk 2 Kestrel 1 Black vulture 14 Turkey vulture 2 Am. coot 20+ Mourning dove 4 E. Screech owl 2 N. flicker 2 downy woodpecker 2 Pileated woodpecker 2 E. phoebe 2 Am. crow 23 Blue jay 5 Carolina wren 3 Winter wren 1 Ruby-crowned kinglet 1 E. bluebird 8 Am Robin 2 N. Mockingbird 3 Starling 2 N.
