Around noon on my lunch break at work today, 10/20, I noticed hundreds of vultures streaming south right along Broadway in North Knoxville (Fountain City area). The closer ones I could ID without binos were all Turkey Vultures. They were gliding and kettling, maybe 200 - 300 ft high. I saw some veering southwest maybe towards Sharp's Ridge or the ridge north of it. They were streaming steadily for several minutes and I saw singles still coming through 25 minutes later. I didn't count but I would say there were at least 500 and probably closer to 1000 seen. I've never seen vultures in numbers like this and in an obvious migration pattern. Pretty unexpected and neat for "buzzards."
