A few months ago someone asked about access to Kinston Steam Plant and I
have been trying to get information since then. At this time public
access to the Kinston Steam Plant property is not allowed. Kingston
site personnel feel that it could be as long as 3 years before the site
will be reopened. The following email was received from the TVA
information group:
Our employees and contractors undergo extensive training to ensure that
everyone on the site works safely, and it will not be possible to allow
public access to the ponds while the cleanup is underway. TVA and EPA
are working diligently to develop a schedule for completion of the
project, and several options for the future use of the site and
surrounding land are under consideration. Keeping the public informed
has been and will continue to be an important part of the recovery, and
the Valley's bird watchers will have the opportunity to provide input as
these plans are developed. I'm sorry that I cannot give you a date when
the site will be open, but the <http://www.tva.com> www.tva.com website
is updated regularly with information about all facets of the project.
Opportunities for public involvement will be posted there.
