I birded Kingston Steam Plant, Roane County, late in the afternoon of Saturday, 2 Sept 2006. Low numbers of shorebirds, but the sanderlings, turnstones, and buff-breasteds were nice. My list: Canada Goose - ~100 Wood Duck - 10 Mallard Double-crested Cormorant - 5 Great Blue Heron - 4 Great Egret - 2 Little Blue Heron - 2 imm Black-crowned Night-Heron - 1 imm Turkey Vulture - 5 Osprey - 1 Killdeer - 35 Lesser Yellowlegs - 1 Spotted Sandpiper - 1 Ruddy Turnstone - 2 Sanderling - 3 Semipalmated Sandpiper - 2 Least Sandpiper - 6 Buff-breasted Sandpiper - 2 Mourning Dove E. Bluebird Euro Starling Common Yellowthroat Song Sparrow N Cardinal Red-winged Blackbird House Finch Am Goldfinch Most of the shorebirds were in the rectangular pond in the raised area on the left. As you walk into the ash pond area from the gravel parking area at the ballfields, take the road going up the raised dikes at the siren tower with the photovoltaic panel on it. The pond with the shorebirds will be on your right when you get to the top of the raised dikes.
