I birded Kingston Steam Plant in Roane County, TN from 2:15 to 5:15 p.m.,
Sunday, Oct. 29. Lots of good birds, most of which I saw:

Canada Goose 35
Gadwall 4
Mallard 3
Green-winged Teal 1
Redhead 2
Ring-necked Duck 2
Hooded Merganser 3
Pied-billed Grebe 1
Great Blue Heron 2
Great Egret 1
Bald Eagle 1 flying in the distance westbound over the river
Northern Harrier 1
American Kestrel 1
American Coot 63
Sandhill Crane 7 flying south/S.W.
Killdeer 6
Least Sandpiper 3
Dunlin 3
Bonaparte's Gull 6
Ring-billed Gull 23
Mourning Dove 4
Blue Jay 2
American Crow 4
Carolina Wren 1
Northern Mockingbird 1
Vesper Sparrow 1 (soccer field area)
Song Sparrow 6
American Goldfinch 1

Chuck Nicholson came by, kindly pointed out a few of the above to me and
said he'd also seen a female Common Goldeneye.

Around 3 pm as I was scoping the vesper sparrow which was perched atop the
soccer net, a TVA guy who had been driving by on his day off came up to me
to be sure I wasn't taking photographs. I was glad I didn't have my camera
with me. He was very pleasant, but if you're planning a trip to the steam
plant, you might want to leave your camera at home.

Carole Gobert, Knoxville, Knox Co., Tenn.
