Aug. 23, 2003 Kingston Steam Plant Roane Co. The Chattanooga chapters field trip lead by John Henderson (his computer is down for about a week) was quite successful. The sky was a slight bit overcast so the heat wasn't it's usual problem. It had rained recently so there was no powdery dust and there were many great shore birds to pick through! Birds of interest included: Grasshopper Sparrow 3 At the parking area Caspian Terns 2 MARBLED GODWIT 1 Western Sandpiper 12 Least Sandpiper 20+ Solitary Sandpiper 4 Semipalmated Sandpiper 1 Semipalmated Plover 1 Stilt Sandpiper 1 Short-billed Dowitcher 1 Lesser Yellowlegs 1 White-rumped Sandpiper 1 Black-crowned Night-Heron 1 Pectorial Sandpiper 6 Osprey 2 or 3 Great Egret 2+ at the steam plant area and another 12 to 15 "white birds" in some trees across the river about a mile away.
