Hi Birders, I have a question about a bird I saw along the Texas coast. It was obviously a Kingfisher, but it was jet black, not blue nor green. It had no red on its breast. It had just black and white in a Kingfisher pattern. I am open to it's being a Green Kingfisher because we were very close to Mexico. We saw this kind of "black" kingfisher in direct sunlight, in overcast conditions and in the rain. Has anyone seen this newfangled "black" kingfisher, or was I looking at a "Belted" or a "Green Kingfisher"?
