I was walking across a field at Concord Park in Knox County this morning when a killdeer got my attention by fluttering across the grass away from me. When I stopped and scanned the ground carefully I discovered his mate sitting tight (presumably on a nest) just 10-12 feet in front of me. I could have walked right over her though she likely would have moved before I stepped on her. She kept an eye on me while I snapped her photo and then carefully moved to the side to take another.
