This morning I saw an adult RED-THROATED LOON from the Pump Station, Duck
River Unit TNWR in Humphreys County. It was on the main lake in the
direction of Camden WMA. As far as I know this is a first County record,
though it's one that's been overdue.
At Pace Point an immature GLAUCOUS GULL was seen resting on the ice with
Herring Gulls near the middle of the lake. Much of Lake is now covered in
ice. This is probably the same Gull that Victor and I had here for the Big
Sandy CBC.
5 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were seen from Pace Point as well, passing the
West side and heading towards Paris Landing State Park. I never did find
them again, though I tried the State Park in the afternoon. Not much in the
immediate Pace Point area with a group of illegal Duck hunters set up with
a decoy spread on the point, seen shooting several Gadwall.
Large numbers of Scaup and Goldeneye were seen at Paris Landing, but
nothing rare showed up there. The best birds up in that area were 41 COMMON
MERGANSERS counted out from Port Road. Many of them were males.
