It doesn't get any more last minute or uncomfortable than this. Join me THIS
AFTERNOON for the first of two visits ("Step 2" is Friday) to the hot,
shadeless realm of Eagle Bend Fish Hatchery to look for migrating shorebirds
(plovers, sandpipers, etc.). The plan is not only to see these unique birds,
but also to carefully study, identify, and possibly age each individual. This
is a challenging group of birds, and my ultimate goal is to become the greatest
shorebird expert of Knox County within a mile radius of Kay's Ice Cream on
Chapman. So let's learn together!
FYI: This will be a slow-paced visit as we take time to learn and admire
shorebirds. Time will be spent in a car, but we'll also be outside, so please
bring a hat, sunscreen, plenty of water, and a small group of people with
handheld fans to keep us cool.
We'll meet in the parking lot at 1:30. From there we will carpool and cruise
the ponds. If you have a spotting scope, bring it. I also recommend the new
Sibley Guide and The Shorebird Guide. If by chance you're already a shorebird
expert, all the better!
Remember, I will also be there on Friday afternoon if you'd like to join me
then.
